What is EOPS?

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a college success, counseling support program for low income and educationally disadvantaged students. The program provides access to a college education to students regardless of their economic, social and educational status.

EOPS makes available to all qualified students a program of academic support by providing academic, career and personal counseling, instruction and tutoring as needed to ensure college success.

A book voucher provides monies toward the cost of books each semester. Transportation costs (parking permits, bus passes) and cafeteria meal cards may also be offered to eligible students (if funding permits).

What is CARE?

If you are a single parent, you may also qualify for the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program, a component of EOPS. This program provides educational support services for the academically under prepared, single parent population who are receiving benefits through CalWORKS and are EOPS eligible.

Additional grants for eligible CARE students may also be awarded (if funding permits).

EOPS Services

Counseling

EOPS counselors provide academic advising, career planning and personal counseling. Counselors assist students with establishing educational and career goals. A student educational plan is developed for each student and assistance with registration is given. Financial aid information and assistance is also provided.

Priority Registration

Continuing EOPS students who are in good standing receive priority registration each semester. New EOPS students may receive priority registration during new student registration.

Textbooks

Each semester eligible EOPS students may receive a book voucher to be used towards the purchase of textbooks.

Services are subject to change depending on availability of funds.

Tutoring

Free tutoring is available for all EOPS students. Students are encouraged to seek tutoring early in the semester.

Services are subject to change depending on availability of funds.

Transfer Assistance

EOPS counselors provide information to assist students who are transferring to a college or university. Working closely with a counselor, students will complete the necessary transfer requirements for a Bachelor's Degree. Fee waivers for UC/CSU admission applications and transfer agreements are available to eligible students. Transfer agreements are written to assist with the transfer process (UC/CSU).

Graduation Assistance

Counselors assist EOPS students with the evaluation of Associate Degree and/or Certificate Petitions. Graduation filing fee(s) may be waived and cap and gowns may be purchased for eligible EOPS students.

Parking permit or Bus pass

Eligible EOPS students may receive a free parking permit each semester. A Placer Transit Bus pass may be obtained in lieu of a parking permit.

Services are subject to change depending on availability of funds.

Additional Services for CARE Eligible Students

Specialized counseling and advisement

CARE students also receive referrals to campus and off-campus agencies and departments. Other support services offered are workshops focused on parenting skills and group support meetings.

CARE Grant

Eligible CARE students may receive a Grant to be used for educationally related expenses such as assistance with child care, textbooks, supplies and transportation costs. ($200-400 each semester).

Services are subject to change depending on availability of funds.
